Last day for submission for New Research Grants and New Faculty Summer Excellence Awards.

New Faculty Research Grants and New Faculty Summer Excellence Awards are available to full-time, untenured, tenure-track faculty below the rank of professor/clinical faculty/research faculty/academic professional faculty within their first three years of appointment.

New Faculty Research Grants - Faculty may apply for up to $5,000 individually or $10,000 for collaborative projects submitted by two or more UNCG faculty. Funds may not be used for faculty salary. Applications are due the last working day of January; if awarded, the funding period is for one year.

New Faculty Summer Excellence Research Awards - Faculty members who accept a Summer Excellence Research Award may not accept employment between the end of the spring semester and the beginning of the fall semester and may not receive salaries form other grants for the same period. In exceptional circumstances, an individual may request in writing that the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development waive this restriction. Applications are due the last working day of January; if awarded, the funding period is for the summer following notification of the award.

The Faculty Senate’s Research Grants Committee reviews grant applications and makes recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. A New Faculty or Regular Faculty Research Grant may be held simultaneously with a Summer Excellence Research Award, but a New Faculty and Regular Faculty Research Grant cannot be held simultaneously. Recipients of a previous research grant must submit a final report and a proposal for external support before applying for another research grant.

For more information about these funding sources and others, visit research.uncg.edu or contact Barbara Hemphill at 336.256.1172 or bbhemphi@uncg.edu. Researchers can also consult with their Research Advisory Council representatives.
