Kirchoff receives prize for Innovations in Plant Systematics Education
UNCG Research congratulates Dr. Bruce Kirchoff on receiving the 2013 American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT) prize for Innovations in Plant Systematics Education.
ASPT plans to award this prize annually to an educator who has developed novel and innovative resources for teaching plant systematics to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
The Society chose Kirchoff as the first recipient of the prize for his innovative application of cognitive psychology research to teaching plant identification with both active visual learning and online keys. The ASPT Honors and Awards committee lauded Kirchoff’s “innovative application of research in cognitive psychology to teaching plant identification skills, record of pedagogical research and use of technology to interact with students” as “an exceptional example of combining science and education effectively.”
