Article by Michelle Hines

If you missed UNC-TV’s NC Science Now on Sept. 18, you can still hear UNCG researchers talk about their work to protect the state’s box turtles – and educate teachers and students about the reptiles and amphibians they might encounter.  The segment is posted online at http://video.unctv.org/video/2365081383/. The box turtle study they are engaged in, along with five other agencies and volunteers, could last 75 to 100 years. The state’s reptile isn’t endangered, but threatened, and the study is designed to prevent problems in the future. Dr. Catherine Matthews, professor of education; Ann Somers, biology instructor; and recent graduate Kat Walston are just a few of the UNCG faces you’ll see in the program.
