SUMMARY:The Journey of Love
DESCRIPTION:Title: The Journey of Love: How Five Women Founded the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network\n\nSpeaker: Nurhayat Sultan\, co-founder of the RMCN (Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network)\n\nDistinguished guests:\n\nDr. Ronan Lee: Loughborough University\, Doctoral Prize Fellow at the Institute for Media and Creative Industries\nDr. Thomas Arcaro: Elon University\, Professor of Sociology\n\n\nDate & Time: November 10\, 1pm\n\nBlurb: Born to Rohingya refugee parents living in Malaysia\, Nurhayat Sultan relocated to the United States at nine years old. She always knew of the oppression which the Rohingya people faced back in their homeland of Myanmar\, and she also always sought to help her people in some way. In 2023\, Nurhayat and four other Rohingya women from across the world came together and met in Aceh\, Indonesia\, where they volunteered at a Rohingya refugee camp\, advocated to local stakeholders regarding the situation of the Rohingya people in Indonesia and across the world\, and reconnected with their roots.  What blossomed was the formation and founding of the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network and an everlasting bond during an unforgettable journey which the women have called “The Journey of Love.”\n\nRegistration required: https://go.uncg.edu/rohingya_panel
