SUMMARY:Gaining New Minds: The Power of Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration with Alyse Knorr
DESCRIPTION:Both academia and industry prize specialization\, but what’s lost when our creative world becomes too narrow? In this talk\, Alyse Knorr explores the importance of interdisciplinary artistic collaboration and curiosity\, drawing on her own experiences working with composers\, painters\, and singers that have resulted in a Carnegie Hall premiere\, a public mural at the Harlem Public Library\, and re-creations of 2\,500-year-old archaic Greek songs. Ultimately\, learning from the ways others approach material and method makes any artist become more inventive in their own craft\, more confident in their own practice\, and more holistic in their thinking. \n\n\n\nAlyse Knorr is an associate professor of English at Regis University and co-editor of Switchback Books. She is the author of the poetry collections Wolf Tours (2024); Ardor (2023)\, a Lambda Literary Award finalist; Mega-City Redux (2017); Copper Mother (2016); and Annotated Glass (2013). She also authored the video game history books GoldenEye (2022) and Super Mario Bros. 3 (2016) and four poetry chapbooks. Her work has appeared in The New Republic\, POETRY Magazine\, Alaska Quarterly Review\, Denver Quarterly\, and The Georgia Review\, among others. She received her MFA from George Mason University. \n\n\n\nThis event is hosted by UNCG’s Humanities Network and Consortium (HNAC).
