SUMMARY:W^3 Competition (Webinars Worth Watching)
DESCRIPTION:Virtual programming and presentations\, such as webinars\, are becoming more and more common in education and the workforce. But how many webinars have you been to that are boring\, where you end up browsing the Internet? Graduate students need to be able to present their work and research digitally\, as well as communicate the information effectively and quickly within the virtual programming tool. \nThe UNCG Graduate School and UNCG University Libraries will have a competition for face-to-face and online graduate students to determine who can give the most effective webinar or virtual presentation in 10 minutes. We will put out a call for proposals to all of the graduate programs and select students to compete. Over 1 week\, the competition will run virtual webinar sessions of 4-5 students in each session\, with 3-4 finalists selected based on a rubric. At the end of the week\, we will have 1 virtual session of 4 students and declare a winner.   \nhttps://sites.google.com/uncg.edu/uncgw3/home?pli=1

SUMMARY:CFRN conference: Recovery and Resilience among Children and Youth
DESCRIPTION:Dear CFRN Colleagues:  \nWe hope that your semester is off to a good start.  \nWe are excited to invite you to join us for a mini-conference on Recovery and Resilience among Children and Youth on February 27th from 9am-5pm on campus here at UNCG (with virtual option). This event is open to academics and community partners as well as to community providers\, and is co-sponsored by CFRN and the Care-to-Share Collaborative. This event is open to scholars and youth-serving community partners and students are strongly encouraged to attend and to submit a research poster to share. Registration is free but required for in-person or virtual attendance (for tentative schedule\, details\, and to register\, visit: https://www.fjcolab.org/cts-register). In-person slots are limited and will be reserved on a first-come\, first-served basis. Additional information below – and in the attached flyer.— \nIn the last three years\, societal stress and trauma exposure have become even more rampant. Although children\, youth and families are struggling with increasing mental health\, academic\, and developmental challenges\, scholars and those working with youth in our communities have noted some silver linings and evidence of resilience. Understanding how children\, youth\, families and the institutions who serve them weather times of crisis and strain and recover in the face of challenge is key to supporting children. Attention to cultural variation and how such challenges are compounded for children and youth from marginalized communities is essential to identifying key developmental processes that inform the next generation of prevention\, intervention\, and educational programming.  \nSpeakers and attendee conversations will address resilience and recovery for youth\, children\, families and the institutions who serve them during times of adversity and challenge.  Speakers include Dr. April Harris-Britt\,  Dr. Jessica Schleider\, Dr. Michael Hemphill\, Dr. Desiree Murray\, Dr. Betsy Bledsoe\, and Dr. Sharon Morrison. Registration is free but required for in-person or virtual attendance (for details see: https://www.fjcolab.org/cts-register).  \nWe encourage student submissions for our research poster presentations. Submissions should comment on the link between the research topic and issues of Recovery and Resilience in Children and Youth – although we think about this topic VERY broadly.  Please submit empirical studies\, although any research design (qualitative\, quantitative\, community-based PAR) and disciplinary focus is welcome — as is work in progress. Posters that have been or will be presented at other conferences are also welcome. Submissions are due by 5pm on Friday\, February 10th with decisions by February 13th and can be submitted through the registration page (above). \nIf you have questions about this event\, contact Andrea Hussong or Jennifer Coffman. \nWe’re looking forward to seeing you soon! \nSincerely\, Jennifer and Gaby
