SUMMARY:Jon Henner Memorial Accessibility in Games Speaker Series: Opening Event
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to join us for the opening event on October 17\, 4-6 pm in our speaker series themed around how accessibility and video gaming go together. This speaker series is held in memoriam of Jon Henner. Henner was a professor in the Interpreting\, Deaf Education and Advocacy department at UNCG\, and unfortunately passed away from cancer in 2023. \nHenner was a gamer and planned to host an event like this on campus with the Network for the Cultural Study of Video-gaming. The first event in this series will give participants a chance to see the Esports Arena\, and play games related to accessibility\, or games that have great accessibility features. October 24th will be when we host our first speaker – Sky LaRell Anderson from the University of St. Thomas.

SUMMARY:6th Annual UNCG Public Republic
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place on the lawn between College Ave. and the Minerva statue near the EUC. On that day\, from 8am-6pm\, we will publicly read all 10 books of Plato’s Republic. As Republic is written in a dramatic\, dialogical format\, and represents a day-long discussion amongst (mostly) friends\, we will be bringing this dialogue to life in our performance. We welcome anyone who would like to drop by\, even for just a short while\, to join us. \nWe enthusiastically welcome volunteer readers! \nWe will be devoting an hour to each of Republic’s 10 books. In some of those books\, there are lots of characters participating in the conversation\, and in others\, just a few. We’d ideally like to have 2 volunteer readers for each role\, for each book. \n\nWhy Republic? Why read it publicly? Why the whole thing?\nYou can find a breakdown of topics covered & available roles here.\n You can find pdf’s of the entirety of the C.D.C. Reeve translation of Plato’s Republic here.\nSign up to be a volunteer reader here!\n\nWe recommend scouting out the content of your role before signing up. We’ll bring plenty of hard copies of each book to the event\, so no need to print them out yourself! \nWant to see what previous Public Republics were like? Check this out! \nIf you have any questions\, including inquiries into disability accommodations\, feel free to contact Dr. Adam Rosenfeld at amrosenf@uncg.edu.

SUMMARY:Research Administrators Network (RAN) Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) holds a monthly meeting called the Research Administrators Network (RAN). All research administration faculty and staff attend this meeting in which we discuss University and policy changes\, internal processes and procedures\, sponsor guidelines regarding proposal applications\, and award terms and conditions. The meeting agenda changes each month based on what is happening internally and externally with our sponsors. All faculty and staff are allowed to submit questions and agenda items. The meeting allows both OSP and the Office of Contacts and Grant Accounting (CGA) to provide regular updates and training to faculty and staff\, ensuring we are all on the same page. Research Administrators can use this forum to network and build relationships that will support their development and growth in research administration. OSP disseminates all information shared during this meeting in writing to participants\, so they have the information they need to complete their work. The meetings also help to facilitate a more team-oriented environment where we can work together to solve problems\, create procedures\, and gain a better understanding and appreciation for the people we work with whose work overlaps and intersects with ours. \nThe RAN “Lunch and Learn” Series: We encourage all staff who have attended a training or conference to volunteer to present a topic session to RAN. We call this the RAN “Lunch and Learn Series.” Sessions occur during the summer months of June and July. We typically hold four sessions on different research administration topics\, two per month.
