Internal Research Awards

There are three types of intramural, competitive awards available through the Office of Research and Engagement:

  • New Faculty and Regular Faculty Research Awards,
  • Faculty First Awards
  • Community-Engaged Pathways and Partnerships Grant

New Faculty Research Awards & Regular Faculty Research Awards

New Faculty Research Awards go to full-time tenure-track faculty below the rank of professor, clinical faculty, research faculty, and academic professional faculty who have been at UNCG for 3 or fewer years. Faculty may apply for up to $5,000 individually or $10,000 for collaborative projects submitted by two or more UNCG faculty. Funds may be used for faculty salary provided UNCG guidelines regarding buyouts and add pays are met.

Faculty may apply for New Faculty Research Awards from September 1, 2019 through October 16, 2019 at 5pm, by submitting an application with supporting budget forms. The faculty research awards’ funding period is January 2020 – June 2021.

Regular Faculty Research Awards go to full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, clinical faculty, research faculty, and academic professional faculty who have been at UNCG for more than 3 years. Applicants may seek up to $5,000 individually or $10,000 for collaborative projects submitted by two or more UNCG faculty. Funds may be used for faculty salary provided UNCG guidelines regarding buyouts and add pays are met.

Faculty may apply for Regular Faculty Research Awards from September 1, 2019 through October 16, 2019 at 5pm, by submitting an application with supporting budget forms. The faculty research awards’ funding period is January 2020 – June 2021.

Faculty First Award Program

Faculty First Awards are offered to tenure-track and tenured faculty.

Faculty may apply for Faculty First Awards from January 8, 2020 through February 28, 2020 at 5pm. Faculty First Awards typically fund summer scholarship. Awardees will be expected to participate in a proposed Fall 2021 ORE Research Forum event.

Applicants will submit their application using UNCG’s instance of InfoReady Review at: 2020 Faculty First Award Program Submission Portal. To begin the submission process applicants MUST decide upon which one of four subcommittees they want to review their proposal: Arts and Humanities, Creative & Performing Arts, Social & Behavioral Sciences, or Physical & Natural Sciences. It is recommended that an applicant select a subcommittee based on the content of the proposal rather than on traditional departmental or discipline categories. Once decided, the applicant will select the proposal submission shell (competition link) that corresponds to the appropriate subcommittee:

Community-Engaged Pathways and Partnerships (P2) Grants:
A Collective Scholarship Fellows Program

This P2 Fellows program supports and advances community-engaged scholarship among UNCG scholars
and community partners. The program provides funding and professional development opportunities to
teams who are working in a context of reciprocity and mutual benefit to advance knowledge about, and
accelerate activities to address, community-identified priorities. This program is unique in that projects
span three years; the focus is on community-engaged methods, practices, and outcomes; and the funds
support team-based, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarship. In addition, professional
development and networking opportunities are open to all P2 university and community partners.

Teams are eligible for three consecutive years of funding up to $16,000.

Applications for the 2021 cohort are due October 9, 2020, 5:00 p.m.
