UNCG Research congratulates Dr. Karen Wixson on her funding from the UNC General Administration. Her $897,575 award supports the Race to the Top: North Carolina New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP).

NC NTSP, which targets teachers in high priority schools, aims to improve beginning teachers’ effectiveness. The program aligns intensive induction support with each teacher’s individual needs, teaching assignment, and school environment.

NC NTSP support begins before these teachers’ first day in the classroom and continues throughout their first three years of teaching. Key elements include an intensive one-week Summer Institute “boot camp”; direct, individualized classroom coaching; and six follow-up professional development sessions per year.

Christina O’Connor, Director of Project ENRICH, serves as co-PI on the project.
