This June, University Libraries granted Dr. Ethan Zell an award from the Open Access Publishing Support Fund. The Associate Professor of Psychology used the funding to publish “The Influence of Social Comparison on Visual Representation of One’s Face” in PLoS ONE. PLoS ONE is an interactive open-access journal for peer-reviewed scientific and medical research.

Currently, more than 30,000 open access journals publish worldwide. In lieu of a subscription-based business model, many of these journals require that authors pay an article processing fee. UNCG’s pilot Open Access Publishing Support Fund aids those who choose open access publishing as the best venue for their work. Full-time faculty, full-time EPA employees, and enrolled graduate students may apply for the funding.
