We are very pleased to announce that Joy M. Dismukes, MBA, has joined the University as our new director of UNCG Sponsored Programs.

Dismukes comes to UNCG from Case Western Reserve University, a private R1 institution where she served as assistant director in the Office of Research and Technology Management. In that role, she oversaw pre-award and non-financial post-award administration, including proposal preparation and submission, contract negotiation, award set-up and management, and financial compliance.

Prior to that, Dismukes served as a contract manager for Case Western’s School of Medicine. In that role, she oversaw the contracts portfolio of federal and non-federal research programs for 70+ departments, including University’s affiliates such as the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Health System, the Metro Health System, and Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.

With over 11 years of experience in research administration and management, Dismukes has a wealth of knowledge in all facets of grants management, including electronic research administration. In fact, she had a leading role in designing and implementing Case Western’s pre-award administration software for tracking proposal submissions and award set-ups.

In addition to developing policies, procedures, and trainings for Case Western researchers and teaching courses for that university’s Administrative Professional Series, Dismukes also served as an adjunct professor for Cleveland State University, teaching business communications to undergraduates.

Dismukes is a first-generation college graduate and advocate for higher education who credits her family’s support as a main factor in her success. She received her bachelor’s degree in mass communications from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, and her master of business administration degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
