On Jan. 18, Hendersonville Times-News Online and BlueRidgeNow.com featured a study by UNCG’s John Weil and the NC Network for Safe Communities.
The UNCG study evaluated High Point’s Offender Focused Domestic Violence Initiative and found very positive impacts, including a greater than 50% drop in the recidivism rate and decreased calls for service related to domestic violence.
Key factors in the success of the initiative included open, honest communication between law enforcement and agency partners, consistent tracking and enforcement, and buy-in from all parties involved.
Several agencies both nationally and within North Carolina have shown interest in replicating the successful initiative, said Weil.
