Applying for Faculty First Awards

Application Deadline of February 5, 2021 by 5:00 PM. Faculty First Awards are offered to tenure-track and tenured faculty in the form of “Tenure-Track Faculty First Awards” and “Tenured Faculty First Awards.” Faculty may apply for Faculty First Awards from December 15, 2020, through February 1, 2021, at 5pm. In 2021, Faculty First Awards will fund projects up to 18 mo. in duration. Award recipients are required to participate in a Spring presentation (date to be determined) event.

Community-Engaged Pathways and Partnerships (P2) Grant Info Session

The Community-Engaged Pathways and Partnerships (P2) grant supports teams of faculty, staff, and community partners in their capacity building and their efforts towards collective action and commitments in their partnerships. In this session, ICEE staff will discuss the principles of community-engaged scholarship, community-identified priorities, and collective action. The P2 grant is hosted by the Office of Research and Engagement and the Institute for Community and Economic Engagement. All members of grant teams are welcome to attend.

UNCG Entrepreneur Day

On Entrepreneur Day, successful entrepreneurs, many of them UNCG alumni, visit classes across the campus and share their experiences through as part of the class. Students receive exposure to new potential career paths, opportunities, and connections, while faculty benefit from guest speakers with content relevant to their courses. Since 2012, approximately 70 classes with 2,500+ students have hosted speakers each year; 110 different faculty members teaching in 51 different subject areas have hosted 142 different guest speakers. 2 Minutes to Win It Business Competition

3/26/21, HQ Greensboro

Got a business idea? Pitch it for your chance at winning over $2,000 in prize money plus more! Each year, the NCEC at UNCG sponsors the 2 Minutes to Win It Business Idea Competition. 2 Minutes is open to all full-time students who are at least 18 years old at any Triad college or university. Prizes will include $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, $250 for third place and $250 for best presentation as well as other prizes including a spot in the Launch Greensboro LaunchLab, office space at Co//ab and consultations with attorneys, marketers and business strategists.

Once submissions are closed, the ideas will be sent blind/anonymously to a panel of First Round Judges who narrow the entries and select the 20 best entries as Finalists. Finalists will be notified a few weeks before the actual pitches and will be invited to attend a Pitch Workshop to help fine-tune their ideas and improve their pitch. On 2 Minutes to Win It Pitch Day, each of the 20 finalists will have two minutes to pitch his or her idea to a panel of 30+ entrepreneur judges. Winners will be announced at a reception to follow. Human Subjects Research Training Workshop

Workshop Overview: The UNCG Office of Research Integrity offers a two hour session in human research protection once a semester, covering all required categories to meet the requirements of our assurance with the Office of Research Protections (OHRP). This workshop will cover areas such as confidentiality, informed consent, recruitment, and the history of human research protection and are offered as an alternative to CITI training.

Responsible Conduct of Research Workshops: Intellectual Property

Workshop Overview: The formal transfer of new scientific discoveries and innovations from academic institutions to the commercial sector occurs through the licensing of Intellectual Property. Intellectual Property includes patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secret.

What do I need to know about patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets?
How can public disclosure result in losing patent rights?

Responsible Conduct of Research Workshops: Research Misconduct

Workshop Overview: Federal regulations define research misconduct as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing or reviewing research or in reporting research results. It is important to recognize that the federal definition establishes a minimum standard for measuring acceptable behavior.

Show Me the Money: Locating Grant Funding Opportunities

Faculty and staff often require external funding for research, teaching, and creative activities. This workshop will explore how to get the most from grant-seeking databases (SPIN, GrantSelect, Grant Advisor Plus, Foundation Center). Participants will learn to search for possible funding opportunities, practice identifying eligibility, and realize the importance of keywords. Description: These sessions will cover Contract and Grant specific Banner Finance Content. If you are a Principal Investigator, this is the only session you will need. This workshop will introduce you to the new Banner grant forms containing the details of the Contract and Grant awards in your organization. You will learn to query and view the awards to find the project and budget dates, indirect cost rates, agency information, etc. You will also learn to view the grant expenses and budget availability in both Banner INB and the UNCG Budget Query available in UNC-Genie (Self-service). Note that you must have a Banner account and Banner Finance Access to take this class.

Access to Banner Finance requires the following:

  1. Access to Banner Finance requires a Banner user ID which is authorized for the specific data and functions for your need. Fill out the Banner Runtime Account Request at http://accounts.uncg.edu and follow the instructions.
  2. Access to your specific Banner Finance funds requires a Banner Finance Access Form. Complete this form (also at http://accounts.uncg.edu) and return it to Wendy Blum, 1100 W. Market St., Campus.
