6th Annual UNCG Public Republic
October 18 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
This event will take place on the lawn between College Ave. and the Minerva statue near the EUC. On that day, from 8am-6pm, we will publicly read all 10 books of Plato’s Republic. As Republic is written in a dramatic, dialogical format, and represents a day-long discussion amongst (mostly) friends, we will be bringing this dialogue to life in our performance. We welcome anyone who would like to drop by, even for just a short while, to join us.
We enthusiastically welcome volunteer readers!
We will be devoting an hour to each of Republic’s 10 books. In some of those books, there are lots of characters participating in the conversation, and in others, just a few. We’d ideally like to have 2 volunteer readers for each role, for each book.
- Why Republic? Why read it publicly? Why the whole thing?
- You can find a breakdown of topics covered & available roles here.
- You can find pdf’s of the entirety of the C.D.C. Reeve translation of Plato’s Republic here.
- Sign up to be a volunteer reader here!
We recommend scouting out the content of your role before signing up. We’ll bring plenty of hard copies of each book to the event, so no need to print them out yourself!
