Home Front Battles: World War II Mobilization and Race in Deep South
September 18 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us on Wednesday, September 18th at 3pm in Hodges Reading Room (Jackson Library) for a presentation by Dr. Charles C. Bolton, historian, professor, and author of the recently published Home Front Battles: World War II Mobilization and Race in the Deep South (Oxford University Press). Bolton’s book explores the role of race in World War II mobilization in the Deep South, where the needs of wartime industries and bases inflamed tensions around labor, land, and military service. To accompany Bolton’s presentation, an exhibit of materials from the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives will display posters, printed materials, and other documents related to World War II, race, and military service.
The Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro collects, preserves, and makes accessible unique and historical materials for learning and research. The department promotes the use of these materials by the University’s academic community, scholars, and the public. Its goal is to advance scholarship and to further the educational and service missions of the University.
