Harriet Elliott Keynote Event

The Power of Prose: Storytelling as the Ultimate Foundation

This year’s Harriett Elliott Lecture Series hosts Jacoby Cochran the Senior Podcast Host for the award-winning City Cast Chicago, a daily podcast and newsletter centered around connecting people to the communities they love. Part keynote lecture, part hip hop show: Jacoby Cochran and community partners, In the Beat of the Night, help us tell better stories by sharing their own. Using their skills as both DJs and master interviewers, the ITBOTN crew commits to showcasing local talent – and keeping us entertained along the way.

This event will be followed by a workshop on October 2 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the EUC Kirkland Suite which will give students and community members a chance to engage with Jacoby Cochran and In the Beat of the Night, in a more interactive conversation. We will discuss various online and community-based platforms, as well as techniques for interviewing – with the goal of showing how our combined stories create the kind of connections that build strong communities.
